Mai Tai
White and dark rum, orgeat, curaçao, lime.
Almond, citrus and double rum. A potent tiki dressed up as a holiday.
Profile: tropical, bold and classic. A small holiday in a glass.
Victor Bergeron created it in 1944 at Oakland's Trader Vic's: a guest tasted it and shouted 'Maita'i ro'a ae!', Tahitian for 'out of this world', and the name stuck. Almond orgeat and orange curaçao keep it sweet on top and serious underneath. Fair warning: it's stronger than it looks.
