Negroni
Gin, Campari, red vermouth, orange peel.
Equal parts gin, Campari and vermouth. Bitter enough to put you off the first time, then you're hooked for good.
On the sip: bitter, bold and classic. In the Italian aperitivo tradition.
Count Camillo Negroni, Florence, somewhere around 1919: he asked his barman to stiffen his Americano with gin instead of soda. Nobody's really improved on it since. We stir it down ice-cold and twist an orange peel over the glass so it hits your nose first. First Negroni? Take it slow. This one clicks on the second.
