El Presidente
White rum, dry vermouth, orange curaçao, grenadine.
Elegant Cuba. Dry vermouth, white rum and a red line of grenadine.
On the palate: dry and tropical. Dry and elegant, for the dry-leaning.
Born in Cuba in the twenties, El Presidente is named after Gerardo Machado, the island's president from 1925 to 1933. Essentially a Cuban Manhattan: rum instead of whiskey, dry vermouth and a drop of grenadine for colour. Less famous than the Daiquiri, but still poured in Havana's historic bars.
